News

February and March

In February I was approached again by The Make a Wish Foundation. I have worked with them previously and produced films for children wishing to be specific characters. This time the wish was for a ten year old boy who wanted to be a secret agent in his own film. We had a tight time frame to work within and the little boy had asked for the film to contain chess and the olympics. Working with Jonny Sanders for the first time we put together a 2 day shoot and delivered a ten minute film. Because of the nature of the project I unfortunately cannot share this publicly online but the end product had speedboats, a trip to Downing Street, a super computer and a very happy tiny secret agent. So many wonderful companies helped out with props and locations and equipment, too many to list on here, but each one deserves a massive thank you. It was great working with such an amazing crew and I always feel really privileged to work on projects like this. The screening was featured in the evening standard and you can read about it here.

The video that I directed for Brontide has been released, this is the one for Coloured Tongues that was based on Nic Britt's idea of shaping bokah. You can watch it below. The video for Jura is finished but won't be released until later in the summer.

We are currently working on videos for 2 new artists, one of which should be Marcus Yau's first video through here. We also have a couple of tour videos coming up over the summer which are always fun to do.

The very talented Melanie Light has got another promo on her page, she Directed, Produced and Edited this piece with Nic Britt as DOP and it has had a great response.

I am in the process of putting up a Director page for Duncan Howsley as he will be joining as a new Director.

Finally Johannes Roberts new film Storage 24 is soon to be released. Jo is an old friend of mine and I worked on his first two features and I could not be prouder of him and his achievements as a horror film Director. Go and watch his film!

October, November, December and the start of January

Happy New Year.It is time for a well overdue update.

September's projects went well. It was great to work with Luke Leighfield again and with new Director Duncan Howsley. The video for 'Have you got Heart' is posted below, it was a really great relaxed shoot and a lot of fun, I think it shows in the finished piece. Later in the month I shot footage of This Town Needs Guns and their final show with Stuart Smith as singer. The show was sold out and the night was really amazing. My skills as a camera operator are definitely in their infancy but the video gives an idea of how much fun the show was and give Stuart something to show to little Ivy who arrived a few weeks later. At the start of October I directed a video for a guy who was previously the singer of one of my favourite bands, it was a great shoot and a real pleasure to work with him. The video is not being released yet but I will post it as soon as I get the go ahead.

In November I produced with a new director called Chris Petcher, he normally works on huge budget commercial projects and decided to go low budget with us for a shoot for the This Town Needs Guns music video. This will be a while in completion as Chris is fitting the post production in around commercial work but it will be worth the wait.

In Decemeber I worked with Duncan Howsley again on another Luke leighfield video, Luke is a pop machine and really doesn't ever stop! The video was filmed in a lovely church and is posted below.

The Brontide video for 'Jura' is now complete and we are waiting for it to be released as part of their stateside press campaign. It is a really nice mix of live and tour footage and games of 'Ninja'.

In other Director news, Melanie Light is in the final stages of post production on her new short 'Escape', she shot this film with Nic Britt in LA over the summer and it will be submitted for festivals on completion.

Marcus Yau is working on post production on two new promos, these will be posted on his page on completion.

This weekend I am Directing the next Brontide video for their single 'Coloured Tongues'. I don't make any secret of the fact that I love this band, their music is amazing and they are good friends so I am excited to be working with them again. The video is based on an effect that genius DOP Nic Britt showed to me, it involves a lot of glass and vinyl and lights and should make for an interesting video.

I have also posted the video for the Welcome Committee that was shot over the summer.

July and August 2011

It is now September and I have only just had a chance to write up the things that went on over the summer, yes I have embraced the fact that it is now pretty much Autumn.

July and August are normally pretty quiet for work because of other committments but I still managed to fit a fair few things in.

The video for The Welcome Committee is finished and the band should be releasing it soon. Melanie Light edited this video for me and Nic Britt did the post work, between them they pulled it together really nicely. It has turned out to be a fun little video and I am happy with the end result, let me know what you think. We are still fitting the Malpas edit in around other work, this doesn't have a delivery date as such but I am hoping to get it finished within the next couple of weeks.

In August we went on tour with Brontide and filmed some of their shows. They made us soup, we had a bbq and played with a kitten. It was a lot of fun and we got some nice footage which will be edited together to create a live/tour video for their last release Jura.

September has several projects so far, I am filming Stuart's final show for This Town Needs Guns on 16th. It os already sold out and should be an amazing night. He is leaving the band to go and be a Daddy for the first time in November, super good luck to him.

I am also shooting a promo for Luke Leighfield with new Director Duncan Howsley. He will have his own page up shortly.

I have had a few quote requests in for videos for October/November so it is looking like it will be a good winter full of nice projects. Check back for some pictures from September shoots.

Update

Jonny Sanders and Marcus Yau have now been added as Directors.

June 2011

June isn't quite over yet but I have a few updates. We had a weekend shoot for 'The Welcome Committee' which involved balloons, glo sticks, streamers and boiler suits, it was fun and should hopefully result in a nice promo. The guys were really great to work with, in particular Ken's ability to keep perfect time whilst drumming to playback. Post will begin next week and we should have a promo ready in early July.

The promo for Malpas that I Directed last September was shelved due to the band signing a record deal. They have now given the go ahead for the promo to be released and I am planning on re-editing it over the next few weeks with Nic Britt, it will be nice for it to finally be released.

We are taking steps towards another music video with Melanie Light as Director, we are currently speaking with several bands about this next project and Mel has some nice narratives concepts in development and an amazing location that are willing to let us in to film.

I have been asked to Direct again for Brontide and we have started developing ideas for the next promo, this is pencilled for a late July shoot.

My Director search has so far proven successful and I am happy to announce that we have Jonny Sanders and Marcus Yau joining us.

Marcus has a strong background in short films and has recently moved into music promos. He currently has one in post production at The Mill and another in pre-production due to shoot in July. His work is interesting and creative with a strong visual aesthetic.

I have watched a lot of Jonny's promos over the past couple of years and I am excited to be working with him. His videos are very clever and the majority have been done with virtually no production help. He has a versatile style and has created videos that are fun and videos that are beautiful to watch. I am looking forward to working as a producer for him.

Both Directors will have profile pages up over the next couple of weeks.

So July should hopefully see 2 new videos from me, the completion of Melanie Light's short film and the start of several new projects.

May 2011

May has been pretty busy. Melanie Light and Nic Britt are back from their trip to LA, they went over on a working holiday and shot 'Escape' Mel's next short film. I have seen the first cut and it is pretty brutal and has some amazing locations and scenery. It is in post production now and should be ready for festival submission within a few weeks.

I have started the pre-production for a promo for 'The Welcome Committee', I will be Directing a studio based video for them in early June.

The project that was planned with Ricky Tart has fallen through due to budget restrictions, this is often the way as the smaller labels try to keep their heads above water and are forced to reduce budgets. Ricky will be busy though in the coming months as his first child is due, best wishes to him and his wife.

I am looking for new directors ready for a site relaunch in September. Several of the Directors that I have worked with are now represented by big production companies so I am looking for new talent to fill the void when promos come in with smaller available budgets. I already have an eye on several people that I am hoping will come on board.

April 2011

I am back from 2 months off and already there are new projects coming up. Firstly working with Ricky Tart again on a video that will involve a lot of prosthetic make up and should be interesting to construct. It will be good to collaborate with Ricky on a music video as the last time we did one together was for Kidnapper Bell 2 years ago.

I have been asked to assist with production on Luke Leighfield's next promo, for those of you not familiar with Luke he is the king of hard work and self promotion and has toured relentlessly for the past few years. His new album is in the process of being finished and was funded by an entirely new approach to fundraising, worth a google. His promo is very much in the planning stages but it will be nice to work with him again.

And finally my video...it was for Brontide and their track 'Matador'. This video was a really special one for me to Direct as the footage is lit entirely using colour slides that my grandfather took whilst living in America in the 1950's. Most of the people in the slides are relatives of mine and it was great using them for a project like this as they have been sat in boxes in a cupboard for several decades. I am so happy with how the video has turned out and this is in no small part down to Nic Britt and his filming/Editing talent. I have known the band for a long time and it was really nice to be working with friends. The video is now on nme.com and has had a really lovely response. The Brontide album Sans Souci is released on 30th May through Holy Roar and is well worth your hard earned pennies.

January 2011

Happy New Year.

At the end of January I shot my third music video with me as both director and producer. It was so much fun and the footage looks lovely. The edit will have to wait until March as I am having a couple of months off now but check back to see the finished product.

I am considering a rebranding of the company this year as it was never intended to be called Charlotte Knight Production, this was just one of the website names that was available and at the time I was working as a freelance producer. I am thinking of ideas for new names and looking into getting a more interesting site constructed. We shall see what happens in 2011.

December 2011

December saw us gladly freezing our asses off for Melanie Light. Firstly on a sunday morning whilst shooting scenes for her new project. This is a horror feature that she has been developing and the project will be taking shape during 2011. Secondly with temperatures dropping to -5°c for Mel's shoot with Silent Resistance. It was so cold that around midnight the gas in the generators actually froze but we soldiered on wrapped in thermals whilst the band performed in tshirts and vests. The finished product can be seen below.

I am busy planning my January shoot and I can reveal that it is for another act signed to Holy Roar. It is great to keep up the good relationship that we have with this label and their bands.

November 2010

So I went along to visit the set of Captain America with Luke and it was the most fun. The cast and crew were fantastic and really went out of their way to make it a great experience. Luke is such a special kid and his family are wonderful, it was great to share such a good experience with them.

Camera tests for my next video were really positive and that is scheduled for a January shoot.

We are also in pre-production for the december video for Silent Resistance. Melanie Light is directing and it is looking like it will be an outdoor night shoot again for Mel.

Malpas have signed a record contract so it is now looking like the video that was shot is going to be re-edited and used for a release next year. I am looking forward to getting it out there finally.

September and October 2010

So the Malpas video has been finished and delivered but has yet to be released, I will post the link once it is out. I am pretty happy with how it turned out, especially as it was only my second attempt at directing a music video. I already have my next video lined up and we are beginning camera tests for this once I am back from a cold holiday at the start of November. This should hopefully be shot before Christmas but will depend on the availability of the band as they are very busy guys.

I am currently getting directors to pitch on a new music video that was requested in the past couple of days, it is for a label that I have never worked with before so should be a good chance to form another partnership.

I also have one more video scheduled to film before christmas for a south coast band. This should be another with Melanie Light Directing and will add to her growing showreel.

The two September projects have been postponed due to copyright issues with the tracks but hopefully they will be picked up again once the label has sorted the problem. It is a shame as they were pretty far away in genre from the usual videos that have been produced recently.

I have a visit coming up to the set of 'Captain America' with Luke and his family, he is the boy who starred in The Elementor as part of the project that I produced for the Make a Wish Foundation. I arranged the set visit as an additional treat and I am going to tag along too. It should be a good day.

Check back for a November update and some pictures from recent shoots.

June and July 2010

There's not much in production at the moment as I am gearing up for a whole month of summer off during August. I am in the process of editing the video for Malpas, I directed the shoot at the end of June and the video should be finished by the end of July. I have to say it is looking very nice.

We have 2 projects lined up for September but these are under wraps at present, they are both music videos though.

There have been a few success stories as 'Switch' the horror short that I helped Melanie Light produce has been accepted as part of Fright Fest and will have a Leicester Square screen over the August Bank Holiday. Johannes Roberts feature 'F' will also premier at Fright Fest and will then be at a cinema near you so go and have a look if you can.

The video for The Widowmaker has been finished and looks lovely, I have put it below. Congrats to Mel on another nice promo.

The Rolo Tomassi video has had a lot of music channel exposure and is amassing plenty of youtube views. I am obviously really pleased about this and the controversy that the video and song and in fact the band in general seems to bring out in people has been making for some interesting comments.

Things will all kick off again in September so have a check back for an update and have a lovely summer.

May 2010

The video for Rolo Tomassi Party Wounds has been released, we had a front page feature on drowned in sound and it has had over 15,000 youtube views to date. Everyone involved has been really happy with the way the video has been received. The band and label are also very pleased with the way it looks. It has been a great first promo for Melanie Light and should prove to be a fantastic spring board for future work. At the end of May I helped Melanie Light produce a music video for The Widowmaker, this involved a lot of extras dressed as skeletons in the woods at night. The video was themed around the mexican day of the dead and I am excited to see the finished piece. We also have another video for a Holy Roar band coming up, more news next month on that one.

The video Ryan Haysom directed for Run Walk was released shortly after and also got a drowned in sound feature as well as an article on Rock Louder. This has also had a really great response and should help generate publicity for the bands future work. Ryan's video for Shadows Chasing Ghosts was also completed and is posted below. I think it looks fantastic and they have made their own documentary to show all of the crew and band hard at work, I look like a bit of a tool but it is quite funny so have a look. I have another shoot with Ryan Haysom directing coming up in June for Death of Thieves.

The project for the Make a Wish Foundation was finished and screened last week. The charity arranged a red carpet and limo for Luke and he had an amazing time. I managed to get ITN and GMTV involved in recording some news footage to edit into the piece, this was a nice surprise for Luke and his family.

Finally I will be turning to directing again in June to put together a video for Malpas, this will be a low budget piece but should be fun to film.

The videos for Rolo Tomassi, Run,Walk! and Shadows Chasing Ghosts are linked below, and if you want to see the documentary you will have to search for it.

March April 2010

So the video that I was hinting at in February was for Rolo Tomassi and their track Party Wounds and we shot it last weekend. Everyone has an amazing time and I am really excited to see what the finished video will look like. It was a music video debut for director Melanie Light. The make a wish video is shooting this weekend and everyone is super excited about it. I am also producing a short documentary piece about the making of the video and we have a premier planned for both later on in the summer.

There is one more project scheduled for May. It is a music video for Shadows Chasing Ghost with Ryan Haysom directing again. They are signed to Small Town America and we are filming in a derelict warehouse that was recently used as a drugs factory! Should be an interesting shoot.

Next update should include the finished Run, Walk! video and possibly the video for Rolo Tomassi so check back soon.

February 2010

It is great to welcome Director Ryan Haysom on board. We have just collaborated on the video for run, walk! and are planning future projects.

His page will be added to my Directors section in the near future.

The video for run, walk! is now in post production. We have put it in the Capable hands of Steve at Prime Focus who edited the video for This Town Needs Guns - Panda over a year ago now, it is good to be working with him again on a project.

I was approached in February by the Make a Wish Foundation and am now producing a very special project where we will be turning a young boy into a super hero. Everyone involved is really excited and the finished product will be a combination of animation, green screen and cgi.

I have just submitted treatments from several Directors for an awesome bands next video so fingers crossed that will be in production soon. It is a band that I have wanted to work with for a long time so I am hoping that one of the treatments will be accepted.

The video for Maths has been pushed back but is still pencilled to happen in the next month or so.

Melanie Light's short 'Switch' was really well recieved at 'Ghouls on Film' and has since been accepted to several american festivals. There are talks of a feature in the future and the script is underway.

I have posted some pictures from the run, walk! shoot below.

January 2010

Happy New Year.

Below is the finished video for the Run Toto Run track 'Catch my breath'. This is another project Directed by Nick Bentley and it is once again a striking visual idea. So far it has been really well received. Big thanks to everyone who helped make this promo come to life.

This month has been busy so far and there are several project coming up for January/February. I am collaborating with David Allain again on a video for Maths (Holy Roar). I have a video for Winchester band run,WALK! currently in production, this is another on for Holy Roar.

The short film that was shot in december is currently in post and should be finished soon, this is already being submitted for some horror short film festivals.

I am also hoping 2010 will be the year for Ricky Tart's feature to begin production, the script is in the final stages of development at present and it looking good.

2010 will also be the year that Johannes Roberts feature 'F' will be realeased, Jo is a good friend of mine and I am super excited to see what was an amazing script finally on screen.

December 2009

Kcat video was finished on christmas eve, have a look below..

Autumn and into Winter 2009

I have not updated for a while, things have been busy. The video for Holy State was finished over the summer and was released along side the track, you can watch it here or on Jack Hydes page. Since then Jack has been submitting treatments for several briefs on radar music so hopefully he will get another animation commission soon. In September I produced another of Nick Bentleys projects, for Run Toto Run and their track 'Catch my breath'. The promo is still in post production and the track is currently getting a fair bit of Radio 1 play, hopefully this will relate to lots of interest in the video once it is completed.

Ricky Tart has been away working on a documentary all over europe but is back for more projects in the new year.

I have just produced my first job with Pulse Films and their Director David Allain, he has directed for the ting tings, tinchy strider, lady sovereign and lots more. The shoot was for Kcat and her track 'Boys don't cry' and it went really well. The team on this one were great and everyone really worked hard to pull off some great footage. I have plans to work with David again in January on a video for Maths (Holy Roar).

Finally there is one more shoot before christmas, this one is a short film with a new director and should be interesting, more details to come....

June 2009

The video for Kidnapper Bell - The Great Outdoors is released on June 29th and you can watch it here I will also add it to Ricky Tarts page.

I have a currently in production for Holy Roar, Jack Hyde is animating a video for Holy State. This is due to be finished by the start of August.

The video that I directed for the M83 submissions contest is going to be re-edited for This Town Needs Guns and their track Baboon, this is something that should also be done by August.

I shot some footage of Bombay Bicycle Club playing at Simon's beach hut at Hengisbury head. This was an acoustic gig with about 60 people watching them on the beach, it was an amazing night. I will be putting the footage together into a short video over the next week or so which will go on youtube.

April and May 2009

April was lovely but I am now back working. I have projects coming up with Nick Bentley during May and June. The final edit of Luke Leighfields video for 60,000 miles is nearly finished as Nick fits the edit in around his busy schedule. The final edit for the Kidnapper Bell video is done but won't be released until the summer, at which point I will add it to Ricky's page. There are some pictures from Lukes video shoot below.

February and March 2009

Feb and March involved 2 new videos.

Feb was spent on production for Kidnapper Bell's video 'The Great Outdoors', it is an amazing track. We filmed, with Ricky Tart Directing, on 14th March and it went really well, the video concept is unusual with up to 5 cameras filming at once. The finished product should be ready for the start of April.

In March I was working with Nick Bentley again on production for Luke Leighfield's video for '60,000 Miles'. We filmed on 15th March, so it was a weekend full of filming. The video features a man with a horses head and lots of lovely girls. Nick and Luke shot some of the video out in Spain during touring. I am adding Nick into my Directors section and will post the video once it's finished.

April is my month off but I will be back doing more videos from May.

January 2009

I decided to begin the year with something different and I turned my hand to Directing. Teaming up with Ricky Tart and Ani we made our entry for the M83 'We Own The Sky' video submission contest. We shot and edited the whole thing in under 8 hours and with practically no budget apart from the cost of some tapes and a few balloons. It was really fun.

November 2008

The New site is up and running.

This is intended to showcase the work of all the Directors that I work with in one place. Hopefully this will make it easier for clients.

October 2008

With Ricky Tart directing we covered the awards ceremony for The Academy of Contemporary Music. We worked with Felix Forrester using his new AR rig which blew us all away. Take a look in the links section to see his website. The final video will be up on Ricky's page soon.
